First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bank of the West.
Intern
It was a straightforward phone interview with two people. The first interviewer just confirmed I was a good fit for the role and the internship. The second call was with a higher-up manager at the Bank. I gave straightforward answers to the first interviewer; he wanted to check our commitment. The second interview was more detailed about what I hoped to gain from this internship and my future aspirations in compliance and AML.
- Why are you interested in this internship opportunity?
- What are your career aspirations for the next 10 years?
- How will this internship contribute to achieving your long-term goals?
Intern
I applied online for an intern position and was contacted by HR within a week to set up an interview. The role was for the corporate real estate department. There were 2 interviews in total. The first one was pretty chill, where the hiring manager asked me basic questions about my courses and background. The second interview was much more intense; I was interviewed by 5 people. It was a mix of behavioral and technical questions. The last interviewer gave me a real estate scenario and asked questions to understand my thinking.
- How do you think you would assess the value of a property?
- Can you share an instance where you faced a challenge and how you managed to overcome it?
Intern
This is for the Finance Summer Internship. It was a 2-part process, interviewing on campus and then in-office with 4 different people. Pretty easy, behavioral, not too technical. I hear they're trying to recruit better with a more competitive salary now. I met them at my college career fair and talked to the head recruiter. HR is very helpful.
- Can you explain how a bank functions?
- What are the accounting items found on the three financial statements?
- Could you define accounts receivables and payables?
