First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Banana Republic.
Manager
This interview is usually one-on-one with the store manager or assistant manager. You can expect behavioral questions, such as "Tell me about a time you delivered excellent customer service," "How would you handle a difficult customer?" and "What does great customer experience mean to you in a premium brand setting?" They might also gauge your understanding of fashion trends, product styling, and sales strategies.
- How would you make sure your team always provides the high-level customer experience that matches Banana Republic’s brand?
Management
I met with the general manager and district manager. It was a thorough process focused on how to service clients. They asked about loyalty and credit card applications. We had a casual conversation and through each answer I gave, I provided clarity on the company, the mindset, and what is to be expected.
- Can you tell me about your experience in retail and service?
- What can you tell me about styling options?
- What are the options for loyalty programs?
Assistant Manager
I applied online and got a call a few days later to come in for an interview. It went well and was very pleasant. I was invited back the following week for a second interview with the district manager. This was also pleasant and I thought it went well. No real hard questions were asked, just basic management questions. I was told I would get a call within two days. I received an EMAIL the following day saying they went with another applicant. It is totally unprofessional to send an email after several interviews to say they went with another applicant. I already knew that the management did not like confrontation or to have "difficult" conversations from our original interview, but it is cowardly to not pick up the phone and have common courtesy. I will no longer be shopping with Banana
- Tell me about your management style.
- What would you change about the store?
- Do you have any basic management questions?
