First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Baltimore City Community College.
Director of Physical Plant
Went through two panel interviews, one after the other, with both peers and my direct reports. I didn't think it was appropriate for direct reports to interview potential managers. The questions felt direct and, honestly, not very relevant. They also had delays with the offer process. But, aside from all that, there were many good people to work with and it seemed like there would be a lot of learning opportunities.
- What's your approach to managing unmotivated employees who don't complete work on time?
Director
The interview process was multi-step and took up a lot of time. They wanted to contact my supervisor for a reference even though I didn't list them. During the interview, I was told I would have the ability to lead as I wanted. Then later when I asked about flexible schedules it was a hard no. Seemed 'off' to me.
- Can you describe your leadership style?
Assistant Professor
Interviews included group sessions and one-on-one meetings with faculty, the dean, and HR. A teaching demonstration is part of the process, along with explaining your personal approach to teaching. The group interview will require you to demonstrate your expertise in the subject. We also value sensitivity to multicultural diversity.
- Could you outline the different teaching strategies you'd use to engage diverse learners in your class?
- What teaching methods would you use to cater to various learning styles in your classroom?
Library Assistant
So, first I had to fill out a job application, then some tax forms, and apply for my work ID. A couple days later, the supervisor took me on a tour of the library so I could get a feel for the day-to-day tasks.
- What skills do you possess that would be beneficial for this role?
