Application was straightforward. The interview process began with a detailed phone screen then half day onsite interview with the full team, divided into 30 minute-1 hour meetings, then a virtual job talk discussing previous research.
Went through 7 interviews. Started with a phone screen, then a zoom call about data, followed by a technical presentation. After that, there was an in-person lab assessment, then I met with other scientists on the team, and then the founder. Lastly, an HR interview.
HR first reached out and we had a good talk about the job and company direction. Then I went for an interview with a panel. Things were going well until they got my university name wrong. The mood changed and they stopped asking questions after I corrected them about my university, which came up when they asked about post-docs in my lab. I'm a first-gen college and grad student and had to work multiple jobs to overcome our socioeconomic background. I couldn't relocate my family to where they thought I was from. It was disappointing to feel excluded from the team due to their perception of my background.
