The hiring manager did a single interview where they asked about my past experiences and if I had any similar work history. They also asked about my comfort level with customer interaction and if I had used a cash register before.
Swing by when it's not slammed. Dress presentably, but no need for a suit. Greet the cashier, ask if they're hiring. If they seem confused, ask for an application. Thank them and leave. Fill out the app and bring it back the next day when it's not busy. Greet the cashier again and ask who to follow up with. The manager will likely come out then, and if you're not a total buffoon, you'll get a minimum wage offer with crummy hours. That's just how it is in this line of work. You'll clock in, grab your check, and maybe experiment with food and coworkers. Stick with food service for at least 6 months, but bail before you hit 10 years.
Had an initial phone call that led to a face to face interview, then another interview with the D.O.P., and then a drug and background test at the end.
