The process is very technical and centered on “First Principles.” After the initial screen, there’s a strong focus on a “Pair Programming” session and a deep “System Architecture” dive. Different from other Big Tech loops, Anthropic expects you to reason about high-scale distributed systems with a big focus on safety and reliability. They’re not just looking for someone who can code; they want someone who understands the “Why” behind every architectural decision.

A recruiter contacted me and after a good chat set up a technical (coding) interview. When the coding interview started, the first thing that hit me was that the task given had nothing to do with the role. Even so, I finished the task successfully within the given time. Still, I received an automated email saying I was rejected. It was clearly an automated message because it mentioned "reapplying in the future" and "good luck with my current search"...even though I never applied and wasn’t actively looking. The recruiter was the one who reached out to me.

Applied online through the portal, recruiter contacted me within 48 hours with an online assessment. After that, the next step was a background chat with a recruiter. The interview process was really fast from beginning to end.
