I applied knowing I was just under the experience requirement for the role. A recruiter reached out and, after reviewing my background, suggested I might be a stronger fit for a different position. I was open to that option, even though the posted salary was lower than what we had discussed; the recruiter noted the range was flexible. After that conversation, communication stopped for about a month. The next message I received was a generic rejection email. Given the recruiter’s enthusiasm about exploring the alternate role, the abrupt silence and final rejection felt inconsistent with how the process had been framed.
The initial online application was typical. It took about a month for a recruiter to reach out. I spoke with the recruiter and was informed I'd move on to the hiring manager. After about two weeks, I followed up about the next steps but never received a response.
The whole thing was virtual. They had 2 interviews to see if I should move on. The questions came fast, and I needed more time to answer them.
