I interviewed for an SRE role with Amadeus. I had two technical interviews and then a chat with the hiring manager. The hiring manager told me they were impressed with my profile and I would hear back soon. A week later, I hadn't heard anything, so I contacted HR. HR told me they had hired someone who could start immediately. I don't get why companies proceed with candidates when they have immediate availability requirements that were communicated upfront. It feels unfair because candidates are expected to be transparent and respectful of the hiring process, but companies don't always do the same. This wastes the candidate's time and messes up their job search strategy.
I interviewed for an SRE 3 position at Amadeus. The interviewer was an SRE 1 or 2 with half my years of experience. I noticed him looking at his phone while asking questions and coding challenges. He seemed unaware of basic SRE principles, and I ended up explaining them to him. It's disappointing when a company doesn't have a proper panel to assess candidates, wasting valuable time. I was not expecting this from a reputable firm.
We had 2 tech rounds, focusing on big distributed systems and Linux. We talked about release and deployment details, change control board processes and why they matter, and database migrations. Also covered shell scripting, basic Python, and Ansible. And application understanding was key.
