First, there was a chat with HR, where they asked me typical questions to get a better sense of who I am, my background, and why I want to work there. Then, I spoke with a manager. This part was more about the practical stuff for the job, my technical skills, and if I'd fit in with the team. The manager also checked if I understood the company and what it does.
The recruiting experience was top-notch, with the team being super supportive and keeping me in the loop after every step, giving me tips for what was coming up. It felt really clear and well-put-together. On the flip side, it's a pretty long and tough process. I had to do two assignments and three interviews with recruiters and hiring managers. Then, the final part involved a bunch of interviews with folks from different departments. Even though the recruiters prepped me well, be ready for some questions, especially at the end, that might be about situations that are kind of unlikely or just totally hypothetical.
The interview process was one of the more memorable experiences in my career. I was asked to participate in a few skype interviews, interview onsite, complete a few assignments to test my knowledge of their product, and present a mock Quarterly Business Review. While it might sound overwhelming, from the initial outreach from Algolia's recruiter, Jen, until the day a final decision was made, I was able to learn a lot about the company, as well as the people I would be working with. In the end, while the role captivated me, it was the strong culture at Algolia that helped me make the final decision to join.
