I talked with 3 people for the interview. They asked me some specific questions about my education and previous jobs. I also gave them names for references. They seemed pretty serious about picking the right person.
It was a quick and easy process, and they got back to me within a few days. We had an in-person meeting before COVID. They really want to know if you can handle highly stressful situations. Understaffing is always going to be an issue, so as long as you have a good team it's manageable, but it can be completely exhausting about a third of the time.
I had an in-person interview with the manager. They gave me a tour of the unit. After the interview, I was left alone with other staff RNs to ask any questions I had without the manager present. The interview was formal, but I felt low stress. It lasted about 30 minutes.
