First, a recruiter will contact you and arrange a call with the hiring manager. Then, there's a 30-minute phone interview where you'll discuss different implementation strategies. Finally, you'll have a 3-hour onsite interview with three engineers, covering your resume, personal background, and coding challenges.
A recruiter from MAQ Consulting initially reached out to me. The first interview with 343 was a phone call, a conference call with the Lead lighting artist and another lighting artist. It was a pretty casual call, mostly asking me lighting questions and for my thoughts on them. They also inquired about my past company experiences and the tools I've used. No in-person follow-up interview happened.
The interview process took a really long time, like weeks between hearing back after the phone interview to the in-person stages and then actually getting hired. It dragged on so long the first time I interviewed I was sure I didn't get it. The person in the first in-person interview had a total poker face, it was impossible to tell if my answers were good, bad, or if they were looking for more. I've never been so unsure of where I stood after an interview. The final in-person interview was several hours long and involved a bunch of people and groups. Half of them, I don't think I'll ever work with, and I'm still scratching my head as to why they were even part of the interview.
